Billie-Jo Porter reminds us to enjoy the little things on ‘Feels Good to Feel Good’
Australian country singer-songwriter Billie-Jo Porter is embracing life's simple pleasures with ‘Feels Good to Feel Good’, a bright, feel-good new single encouraging listeners to slow down, back themselves and enjoy the moment.
Sometimes happiness comes down to the simplest things. A good hair day, a well-earned holiday or simply finding a reason to smile when life gets a little overwhelming. It's this light-hearted approach to everyday challenges that Australian country artist Billie-Jo Porter captures on her new single, ‘Feels Good to Feel Good’, released on 6 November.
Co-written with fellow singer-songwriter Gretta Ziller, the track explores the pressures of modern life, from self-doubt and burnout to the constant pursuit of getting everything right. Rather than dwelling on what might go wrong, Porter offers a more optimistic perspective, encouraging listeners to appreciate what makes them happy.
'When Gretta Ziller and I wrote “Feels Good to Feel Good”, we were talking about how living a good life comes down to doing what makes you happy - even simple things like putting effort into having a great hair day!' Porter explains. 'There's a line in the song that says, “we are all going to die someday anyways”, and if you live your life by some of the quotes from people like Willie Nelson and Oprah, everything is going to be ok. It's all about putting out good energy and backing yourself.'
Produced by multi-award-winning Shane Nicholson at Monkey Jump Productions, the single combines Porter's warm vocals with a relaxed country groove and a subtle psychedelic influence. Nicholson, whose production credits include Beccy Cole, Lyn Bowtell and Tori Forsyth, has worked with Porter previously, including producing her self-titled debut album in 2023.
'Working with Shane Nicholson on this track was another fantastic experience. Shane has this incredible ability to take the heart of a song and elevate it without ever losing its original magic or authenticity', Porter says. 'He brought so much warmth and energy to the recording process, and you can tell he sprinkled a bit of magic into the track.'
Originally from the small country town of Quirindi in New South Wales, Porter grew up surrounded by the storytelling traditions of country music. Her musical journey later took her through North America, where an experience at a Canadian music festival helped inspire her to pursue her own artistic career.
Drawing on country, Americana and indie folk, Porter has developed a songwriting style shaped by travel, personal experiences and an appreciation for life's everyday moments. Her 2023 debut album reached No. 4 on the ARIA Australian Country Albums Chart and was named Album of the Week by ABC Country, helping establish her as an emerging voice in Australian country music.
With more than 400,000 global streams, Porter has continued to build her audience through new releases and live performances.
Her songwriting has also earned recognition as a Toyota Star Maker finalist, International Songwriting Competition semi-finalist, Unsigned Only finalist and Tamworth Songwriters Association New Songwriter of the Year finalist.
Throughout 2026, she has appeared at Gympie Music Muster, Deni Ute Muster, Meatstock and Tamworth Country Music Festival, adding to a touring history that includes sharing stages with Pete Murray, Tim Freedman and Melanie Dyer.
Known for her colourful stage presence, Porter also designs and decorates her own performance outfits, bringing an extra splash of personality to her shows.
For Porter, however, it's the connection with audiences that remains the most rewarding part of performing.
'We have had such an incredible year so far with so many amazing shows and festivals, and I'm thrilled to keep that momentum rolling', she says. 'Getting out on stage and playing live - connecting face-to-face with people who genuinely love music - is easily the best part of this whole journey.'
With a string of performances scheduled across regional New South Wales and an appearance at the 2027 Tamworth Country Music Festival, Porter has plenty of opportunities ahead to share her latest music.
‘Feels Good to Feel Good’ reflects the positive outlook that has become a familiar part of her songwriting, offering a cheerful reminder that enjoying life doesn't always require a grand occasion.
Sometimes the little things are more than enough.
