Clancy Pye embraces opposites in new single ‘Sunday Drive’

Clancy Pye 2026

Central West NSW country singer-songwriter Clancy Pye has released ‘Sunday Drive’, a warm, easy-going country track about finding the perfect travelling companion in someone who sees the world a little differently.

They say opposites attract, and for Clancy Pye, sometimes it's those little differences that make a relationship work. The Orange-based country artist explores that idea on her new single, ‘Sunday Drive’, released on 30 October, pairing heartfelt songwriting with a traditional country sound that feels made for an afternoon on the open road.

With rolling banjo, pedal steel and twangy electric guitars, the track brings together old-school country charm and contemporary production, carried by Pye's warm vocals and an inviting, singalong chorus.

At the heart of the song is a couple whose personalities couldn't be more different. One prefers a Friday night, the other a quiet Sunday afternoon. One is drawn to the bright lights, while the other feels more at home on the front porch. Yet despite their differences, they complement one another, finding common ground in the journey they're sharing.

'Lyrically, I wanted to explore that idea of “yin and yang” in a relationship – how two people can be completely different yet complement each other in all the right ways as they navigate life's twists, turns and uncertainties', Pye explains. 'They say the best part of life's journey is who you get to share it with, and it was fun to weave that theme throughout the song.'

Written by Pye, ‘Sunday Drive’ was the final track recorded for her forthcoming debut album, Feels Like Home, and quickly became a favourite among the musicians involved. Recorded at The Vault Studios with producer Sean Rudd, the song features Pete Drummond, Michele Rose and Pye's brother, Mickey Pye, each contributing to its relaxed yet lively arrangement.

'Musically, I wanted this song to feel like a Sunday drive – relaxed and easy-going, but with a few changes of gear along the way that make you want to turn the stereo up and sing along', she says.

The single follows the success of ‘My Hometown’, which reached number one on the Country Songs Top 40 Australian Airplay Chart, peaked at number 17 on the AMRAP Regional Airplay Chart and earned a place on Apple Music's New In Country playlist. Both songs offer a glimpse into Feels Like Home, an album shaped by Pye's connection to her upbringing, relationships and the places that have influenced her songwriting.

Raised on a farm near Oberon in Central West NSW, Pye grew up surrounded by music, picking up a guitar at just six years old. Her early experiences performing in local venues helped establish the country storytelling style that remains central to her work.

Her self-titled debut EP arrived in 2020, followed by singles including ‘Get Lost’ and ‘Heaven Can't Wait’, both of which debuted at number one on the iTunes Country Singles Chart. A two-time Toyota Star Maker Grand Finalist, Pye has since performed at CMC Rocks, Gympie Music Muster and international festivals in Canada and Nashville, both as a solo artist and alongside other country performers.

More recently, she has toured extensively with Tania Kernaghan and Jason Owen, while continuing to build her own audience. Her music has now accumulated more than 500,000 global streams. With Feels Like Home scheduled for release in 2027, Pye is preparing to take her new material on the road, with plans for a regional tour.

'As a songwriter, there is no better feeling than performing your own songs in front of an audience and being able to build those “in-person” connections', she says. 'I'm really looking forward to playing the songs off this album live and experiencing those connections first-hand.'

With its easy-going rhythm, traditional country instrumentation and relatable storytelling, ‘Sunday Drive’ captures the simple pleasure of sharing life's journey with someone who makes the ride worthwhile.
