Dennis Comino finds his feet on shifting ground with ‘Dancing on a Fault Line’

Dennis Comino 2026

Brisbane singer-songwriter Dennis Comino is embracing change and uncertainty with his uplifting new single ‘Dancing on a Fault Line’, the first taste of his debut album YOUTH.

Life doesn't always give you solid ground to stand on.

Sometimes everything seems to be changing at once, the future looks a little uncertain and the best thing you can do is keep moving. For Brisbane singer-songwriter Dennis Comino, that feeling has become the inspiration behind ‘Dancing on a Fault Line’, an upbeat new single about finding the courage to enjoy the moment, even when you're not entirely sure what comes next.

Blending folk, rock and alt-country with a bright indie-pop influence, the track brings together Comino's powerful vocals, guitar-driven sound and an infectious sense of optimism.

It's a song about resilience without taking itself too seriously. Rather than getting caught up in everything that could go wrong, ‘Dancing on a Fault Line’ encourages listeners to leave their worries behind for a while and embrace whatever life happens to throw their way.

And it's a fitting introduction to YOUTH, a deeply personal debut album that has been taking shape over the past two years.

Across ten tracks, Comino explores the experiences that come with growing up, falling in love, navigating change and trying to work out who you are becoming without completely losing sight of who you used to be.

The project didn't begin with a grand plan to make an album.

Instead, it started when Comino returned to two older songs, ‘Youth’ and ‘Both of Us’, and decided to give them another chance.

‘They were completely different songs before that, and finishing them felt like I had finally found the direction I'd been aiming for,’ he explains. ‘After that, I finished a couple more tracks and thought, why not keep going and make an album?’

What began as a couple of rewritten songs gradually grew into something much more personal.

As Comino continued writing, he found himself collecting the moments, relationships and emotions that had shaped his life during a particularly formative period. Some songs looked backwards with nostalgia, while others reflected the uncertainty of moving forward.

‘From there, the project slowly became a collection of moments, feelings and versions of myself from a really formative period of my life,’ he says. ‘To me, YOUTH is about growing up while still trying to hold onto the parts of yourself that existed before everything became more complicated.’

It's a feeling that extends well beyond any particular age.

Growing up rarely happens in one neat moment. It's more often a collection of small changes, unexpected turns and realisations that arrive when you're busy doing something else.

For Comino, those experiences became the foundation of *YOUTH*, with the album evolving naturally alongside the changes happening in his own life.

‘A lot of the album came together naturally rather than from one clear plan, and I think that's part of what makes it so personal to me,’ he explains. ‘It feels like a snapshot of these past two years and everything that shifted within them.’

While YOUTH marks his first full-length release, Comino is certainly no newcomer to performing.

An official Cole Clark Guitars touring artist and a 2021 Junior Graduate of the Academy of Country Music, he has already built an impressive collection of live experiences both at home and overseas.

His performances have taken him to major Australian festivals including Gympie Music Muster, Woodford Folk Festival and Tamworth Country Music Festival, as well as multiple stages in Nashville, Tennessee.

Along the way, he's shared stages with Dean Lewis and Travis Collins and supported artists including The Wet Whistles, Andy Penkow, Caitlyn Shadbolt and Ross Wilson.

Those experiences have helped shape an artist whose music comfortably moves between genres, drawing on the storytelling of folk and country, the energy of rock and the melodic appeal of indie-pop.

But with YOUTH, Comino appears to be looking a little further inward.

Rather than simply showcasing his musical influences or performance credentials, the album offers listeners a chance to understand the experiences behind the songs and the person making them.

And perhaps that's what makes ‘Dancing on a Fault Line’ such an appropriate place to begin.

There's an interesting contradiction in a song that celebrates dancing while everything beneath your feet feels uncertain. But maybe that's the point.

You don't have to have everything figured out to enjoy where you are.

Sometimes the best memories, the biggest changes and the most important chapters of your life happen while you're still working out what comes next.

For Dennis Comino, YOUTH captures that journey, with all its uncertainty, nostalgia and possibility.

And if ‘Dancing on a Fault Line’ is anything to go by, he's determined to enjoy the ride.

‘Dancing on a Fault Line’ is available on streaming platforms from 9 October. Dennis Comino's debut album YOUTH arrives 23 October.
