Jake Bugg returns to his roots with reflective new single ‘Day By Day’
British singer-songwriter Jake Bugg has released ‘Day By Day’, the latest single from his forthcoming seventh studio album, Alamo, marking a new chapter of independence and a return to the acoustic, folk and blues influences that first brought him international recognition.
Nearly 15 years after arriving on the music scene as a teenage sensation, Jake Bugg is approaching his songwriting with a different perspective. The Nottingham-born musician has released ‘Day By Day’, a reflective new single that explores perseverance, uncertainty and the challenges of finding your way through life's everyday pressures.
Built around Bugg's distinctive acoustic fingerpicking, the track strips things back to the essentials, allowing his songwriting and storytelling to take centre stage. Rather than offering easy solutions to life's difficulties, ‘Day By Day’ considers the importance of accepting both the good and the bad while finding the determination to keep moving forward. It's a fitting introduction to the next chapter of Bugg's career.
His forthcoming album, Alamo, arrives on 13 November through Thirty Tigers and represents a significant change for the singer-songwriter, who is releasing music independently for the first time after spending his career signed to major labels.
The 11-track collection sees Bugg reconnecting with the folk, blues, rock and roots influences that defined his earliest recordings, while bringing a more personal approach to his writing.
Produced by Grammy-winning producers Jimmy Hogarth, whose credits include Amy Winehouse, Anohni and Paolo Nutini, and Steve McEwan, who has worked with Chris Stapleton and Carrie Underwood, the album reflects an artist with considerably more life experience behind him. For Bugg, the journey began in 2012 with the release of his self-titled debut album.
Still a teenager at the time, he quickly became one of Britain's most talked-about new musicians, with his raw vocals, acoustic guitar and blend of folk, country and rock drawing attention well beyond the UK.
The album debuted at No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart and went on to achieve triple-platinum certification, establishing Bugg as a distinctive voice among a new generation of British songwriters. International touring followed, including extensive performances across the United States between 2013 and 2016, alongside television appearances and major festival stages.
Over the years, Bugg has continued to explore different musical directions, moving between stripped-back acoustic recordings and more contemporary rock production.
With Alamo, however, he appears to be returning to the musical foundations that first captured audiences, this time with the perspective of an artist who has spent more than a decade navigating the industry.
The album's earlier single, ‘Never Can Tell’, has already attracted airplay across American adult album alternative and Americana radio, signalling renewed interest in Bugg's roots-driven sound. While his early success was built around the promise of a young songwriter with an old soul, his latest material draws on the experiences that have accumulated since.
There's a greater sense of openness in the new songs, with Bugg allowing more of his personal life and observations to shape the music.
And perhaps that's what makes ‘Day By Day’ an appropriate introduction to this stage of his career. It's not a song about having everything figured out, but about learning to live with uncertainty and continuing forward regardless.
For an artist who found fame so young, *Alamo* represents an opportunity to reconnect with his musical identity while showing audiences how much he has grown along the way.
‘Day By Day’ is available now, with Jake Bugg's seventh studio album, Alamo, arriving on 13 November 2026.
