Jessica Sevier Takes on an Australian Classic Ahead of Her First Tour Down Under

Jessica Sevier

Natalie Imbruglia's ‘Torn’ was one of those songs you couldn't escape in the late nineties. Nearly three decades later, it remains instantly recognisable, and now Canadian country artist Jessica Sevier is putting her own spin on the Australian classic ahead of her first visit Down Under in January 2027.

Set for release on 27 November through The Orchard, Sevier's country-influenced interpretation of ‘Torn’ is both a nod to the music she grew up listening to and a fitting introduction to Australian audiences.

Originally released by Imbruglia in 1997, the song became an international hit, its combination of heartbreak, vulnerability and an unforgettable chorus helping it endure long after its original chart success. For Sevier, it was a familiar part of her childhood soundtrack, making it a natural choice when the idea of recording an Australian song came up.

‘I grew up hearing it on the radio, so when we started talking about which Australian song I'd love to cover, it felt like the perfect fit’, Sevier explains. ‘Recording it was such a fun, nostalgic experience, and releasing it ahead of my Australian tour felt like a great opportunity to pay tribute to an incredible Australian artist and a song that has stood the test of time’.

Sevier has approached the recording through her own musical influences, bringing elements of country, roots and Americana to a song whose themes of disappointment and emotional uncertainty sit comfortably within the storytelling traditions of country music.

The release comes during a particularly busy period for the Canadian singer-songwriter, whose career has been gathering momentum both at home and internationally.

Her seven-track debut EP, 'Wild Wild Woman', released in September through The Orchard, introduced a broader audience to her blend of contemporary country, Americana and rock. Exploring heartbreak, difficult relationships, resilience and finding your way back to yourself, the record balances personal storytelling with strong melodies and a sound that moves comfortably between genres.

The EP features collaborations with JUNO Award winners Serena Ryder and Hill Kourkoutis, alongside Robyn Ottolini, Derek Hoffman and Ron Lopata. It has already passed 1.5 million streams, with the title track accounting for more than 650,000, while Sevier's overall catalogue has now accumulated more than three million streams.

Her single ‘Good to Drive’ provided another breakthrough, becoming her first Top 40 hit on Canadian country radio and earning iHeartRadio Future Star recognition across the Pure Country network. Along with two CMA Ontario Award wins and her first performances in the United Kingdom, it's been a significant period of growth for the emerging artist.

Australia is the next stop.

Sevier will make her Australian debut as part of *The Great Canadian Road Trip Down Under*, performing at Six Strings Brewery in Erina on 15 January, The Beer Shed in Leumeah on 16 January and the Capitol Theatre in Tamworth on 21 January.

Her visit coincides with the Tamworth Country Music Festival period, giving Australian country audiences an opportunity to discover an artist whose music draws from many of the same country and roots traditions that have long connected musicians on both sides of the Pacific.

The touring calendar continues to grow beyond Australia, with Sevier also set to make her main-stage debut at Canada's Cavendish Beach Music Festival on Prince Edward Island in July 2027.

For an artist who has spent the past year building an international audience, the Australian tour represents another important step. And there's something rather fitting about arriving here with a fresh interpretation of a song that helped introduce Australian music to listeners around the world.

With 'Wild Wild Woman' establishing her own songwriting identity and ‘Torn’ offering a familiar introduction, Jessica Sevier is bringing a little Canadian country to Australia, along with a song most of us already know by heart.

'Jessica Sevier's version of ‘Torn’ will be released on 27 November 2026 through The Orchard. Her debut EP, Wild Wild Woman, is out now.'
