Denim Is Good

Luca Fogale brings his Challenger tour to Australia in March 2027

Canadian singer-songwriter Luca Fogale is returning to Australia for five intimate performances in March 2027, bringing his emotionally charged folk sound and latest album, Challenger, to audiences across the country.

There's a quiet intensity to Luca Fogale's music. His songs rarely need grand gestures to make an impact, relying instead on thoughtful lyrics, delicate arrangements and a voice capable of turning personal reflections into something universally understood.

The Canadian singer-songwriter will return to Australian stages in March 2027, performing five shows across Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane in support of his fourth studio album, Challenger.

Known for blending the intimacy of contemporary folk with the emotional scale of artists such as Bon Iver and Coldplay, Fogale has built an international following through music that explores the complexities of being human. His catalogue has accumulated more than 250 million streams, while his songwriting has earned two nominations for Adult Contemporary Album of the Year at Canada's JUNO Awards, recognising his albums Nothing Is Lost (2020) and Run When the Light Calls (2023).

But despite those achievements, Fogale's approach to songwriting remains deliberately understated. 'Every word matters to me', he explains, describing a creative process that prioritises meaning over unnecessary embellishment.

That philosophy is particularly evident on Challenger, an album shaped by introspection, personal change and the willingness to question long-held beliefs. Written largely during quiet moments between tours, the record took shape in a remote cabin in British Columbia, where Fogale would retreat from city life to spend time writing and reflecting.

'This album was born out of questioning who I have become and what has shaped me, and in turn, considering how much of my past is no longer serving me — how much I can challenge, and how much I can let go of', he says. For Fogale, the process became an opportunity to examine not only the experiences that had shaped his life, but also the person he wanted to become.

That search for meaning has been a recurring theme throughout his career. Raised Catholic outside Vancouver, Fogale grew up surrounded by faith before discovering a different sense of purpose through music. Learning piano and guitar during his formative years, he eventually found that songwriting offered a way to explore questions about identity, belief and the human experience.

'My focus, instead of turning to God, was turned inwards; towards a reverence for the human spirit and for this world, and towards a deep exploration of self', he reflects.

Those ideas continue to influence his work, with Challenger exploring the relationship between self-awareness, vulnerability and personal growth.

Released through Nettwerk, the album features the singles ‘Horizon’, ‘For’, ‘Ashes’, ‘Lost Without You’ and ‘Begin’, each contributing to a collection that reflects Fogale's evolving perspective as both an artist and an individual. Over the years, his music has taken him well beyond his Canadian home.

Alongside headlining tours throughout Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia and Japan, Fogale has shared stages with artists including Dermot Kennedy and Brett Eldredge.

His ability to create a connection through understated performances has become a defining feature of his live shows, making the intimate venues selected for his upcoming Australian tour a natural fit. For audiences, the March dates offer an opportunity to experience the songs from Challenger in a setting that places Fogale's voice, musicianship and storytelling at the forefront.

And for an artist who believes every word should have a purpose, it's a chance to share the stories behind his latest chapter with listeners on the other side of the world.
